Local know-how
What we see in Centennial homes
Many neighborhoods in Centennial were built from the 1970s through the 1990s, and the homes have settled into mature yards with big trees, shrubs along the foundation and decks off the back. That is good habitat for paper wasps, which nest under deck boards and eaves, and for yellowjackets, which nest in the ground near patios and play areas.
Boxelder bugs gather on warm south and west walls in late summer and move indoors in August and September. They do not bite or damage the house, but they stain curtains when crushed. Sealing gaps around windows and vents before then is the best defense, and a vacuum handles the ones that get in.
Basements with window wells are common here, and window wells collect leaves, moisture, spiders and the occasional mouse. Clearing them out each fall and fitting covers helps keep pests out of the basement.

5 out of 5 stars
We signed up for the seasonal plan after a summer of wasps under the deck. The technician cleared the eaves, sealed a few gaps by the dryer vent and came back for free when the ants showed up in May.

Yellowjackets in the ground right by the patio. They could not come the day I called but were there first thing the next morning, found the entrance and the nest was dead by evening.

Embarrassing problem, handled kindly. They gave us a clear prep list, explained when we could sleep in the room again and came back twice to check. No bugs since the last visit.
