Local know-how
What we see in Englewood homes
Houses in Englewood tend to be older and sit on compact lots, with detached garages and trash bins along the alleys. Rodents follow food, so open bins, compost and fallen fruit along the alley draw them in. Bringing bins in at night, as Denver's health department also advises its residents, and sealing the gap under the garage door cut down on what comes inside.
A rat needs a gap about the size of a quarter and a mouse one the size of a dime. Older garages and sheds have plenty of both, so exclusion work here often focuses on the garage before the house.
Englewood has many duplexes, apartments and small multi-unit buildings. Bed bugs and ants in shared buildings often move between units, so we ask about the neighbors. If you rent, tell your landlord first. Colorado's bed bug law gives landlords set duties, and we check the state pesticide-sensitive registry before treating in a multi-unit building.

Yellowjackets in the ground right by the patio. They could not come the day I called but were there first thing the next morning, found the entrance and the nest was dead by evening.

Embarrassing problem, handled kindly. They gave us a clear prep list, explained when we could sleep in the room again and came back twice to check. No bugs since the last visit.

Mice in the garage and the shed every fall. They trapped them, sealed a lot of gaps I never knew were there and told us how to clean up the droppings safely. It took three visits, but it worked.
